Ethics as a Political Premise The book is divided into two parts: the first part defines what secular psychoanalysis is through the axis of the history of psychoanalysis from Freud to Lacan and back; in the second part, secular psychoanalysis is examined through psychoanalytic politics, which concerns both the psychoanalytic act and the ethical risk of current psychoanalysis connected to the same act.
The ethical risk is related to the progressive replacement of normative ethics with the prescriptive ethics of the unconscious.
From all this, it follows that the political commitment of the analyst must be directed towards the creation of a place suitable for secular psychoanalysis: the Lacanian-oriented laboratory.
What would become of Freudian psychoanalysis today, brought back into the spotlight by Jacques Lacan, if its distinctive feature of orthodoxy, secularism, were not preserved within the rigor to which the text aims to remind the reader? The theme of secularism in psychoanalysis, starting from Laienanalyse, is the dividing element, beyond which the fallacy of ego-psychology triumphs.
In this sense, the text and its arguments define today the horizon within which to place the theme of analytical knowledge, its transmission, its presence in contemporaneity, without renouncing ethics, asserting its political essence.
