What is the origin of antisemitism, which has always been the root of racism?
To answer this question, Ettore Perrella traces the history of two and a half millennia of Judaism back to the fundamental contradiction of the Jewish religion: the God of the Jews, on one hand, made a covenant with only one people, but on the other hand, is also the one God of everyone else. The God of monotheism, in fact, is by definition a universal God. It is precisely from this contradiction that Christianity will emerge, which, not by chance, long before Nazism, justified the persecution of the Jews: precisely because the only Savior – the Son of God – was a Jew.
In the first part of the book, the exchange of letters between the Catholic jurist, compromised with Nazism, Carl Schmitt, and the Jewish "revolutionary" philosopher Jacob Taubes is considered.
In the second part, what Freudian psychoanalysis owes to Judaism is considered.
In the third part, based on the most recent findings in the history of the Jewish people, Perrella shows how only a universalism that takes theology into account, but is completely secular because it is not theocratic, can allow for the overcoming of both antisemitism and racism in all its forms.
