With an "unpublished" diary
and stories by the writer Luciano Caldato
Foreword by Luciana La Stella
On the centenary of Franz Kafka's death, an "eminent figure" (Cheloni 2020) in literature, whose art intersects the great themes of "Kultur": the problem of the Law above all, "Judaism and writing," the human enigma, the "metamorphoses" as testimony of the "closeness to animals... and angels," the passionate reader finds an extraordinary contribution in this work by Roberto Cheloni; a fresh perspective, among the thousands of studies dedicated to the great writer, offering Kafka enthusiasts a viewpoint not yet explored, as this perspective is the result of scientific work to which Roberto Cheloni has dedicated over three decades of his writings and publications in specialized journals: that of the "transgenerational theory." At the center of this theory, which the reader can access with great clarity in the pages of this volume, is the theme of "inheritance" and its "transmission." As is known, an inheritance can be refused but not denied, so—even if refused—it still produces effects that propagate through generational "leaps," reincarnating in the "destiny" and thus in the "history" of a life. The greatness of Franz Kafka, as Roberto Cheloni has well understood and clarified in this work, is being a lucid witness to the wounds that "inheriting" entails, wounds that "humanize," not sutured wounds, among which "anthropomorphizing," which alleviates the pain only to forget it, as if it were not part of everyone's history. To complement this study, a "diary," through which Cheloni manages to empathize with the writer from Prague, presenting us with a truly "unpublished" Franz Kafka, a "diary," but almost a fairy tale, in which things, words, memory, intersect with the only gerund of life that truly mattered to Kafka: writing.
