The first deals with the "cogito" from a strictly philosophical point of view, the second is linguistic in nature and presents the "cogito" as a "performative"; the third offers a look at contemporary biology and neurobiology, with interesting observations on the studies of Descartes and the scientist Damasio. The Author captures that knowledge of Descartes where the soul is closely connected to the whole body, despite not having the property of extension. She clarifies that we do not speak of "half a soul" or "a quarter of a soul." And if a man has a leg amputated, it is not said, for this reason, that he is less of a man than someone who has not suffered such mutilation. Today we speak of the great "error": that of having separated the soul from the body; or of having privileged abstract rationality, even anticipating models of Artificial Intelligence, over the intelligence of the body. Descartes in the 1600s emphasized how in life two things are important: the tranquility of the soul and the maintenance of the body in good health, for which nature is a great "innate" teacher. He hoped that the results of one generation would pass to the next, which would surpass them and, over time, with the contribution of many, it would be possible to "extend human life and even alleviate the discomforts of old age." This study seeks to understand what happened: it is an attempt to set things a bit right and to pose some reflections. It is a tribute to his genius, his love for life, his great humanity.
