The Experience of the "Therapeutic Role of Genoa"
The School of Specialization in Psychotherapy "The Therapeutic Role of Genoa" celebrates twenty years. An adventure that began in 2003, which has led to the specialization of about 400 psychologists and doctors, who now perform one of the "impossible professions" according to Freud. What is actually done in a school like ours and how does this specific training experience fit into psychoanalytic training? In the book, the reader will find the experience of clinical cases handled by students specialized in psychotherapy, as they translated them into their theses at the end of the four-year course. The clinical work, the theses, and the chapters of the book, written by these now "former students," are also an example of resilience during and after the social pandemic trauma, by those who sought resources to adapt to the new reality and to help patients do the same. The reader will also find a brief history of our experience as a psychotherapy school. Within the limits of a work that aims to be "open," we have tried to connect in order: the history of our school, the training methodologies that characterize it, some references to the distinctive elements of psychoanalysis training starting from its beginnings, and the individual clinical experiences that constitute the various chapters of the book. The thread that ties the various contributions is that of professional dedication, the passion for everything related to the human being, and the ethical drive without which our profession would be reduced to a sum of technical acts, rather than the richness of an encounter between two minds.

Rita Sciorato è nata a Imperia, vive e lavora a Genova come psicoterapeuta. Laureata in Pedagogia e in Psicologia. Ha lavorato dal 1975 al 2010 nei Servizi Territoriali della Psichiatria della ASL 3 genovese. È Direttrice didattica della Scuola di Specializzazione in Psicoterapia Psicoanalitica “Il Ruolo Terapeutico di Genova”. Da molti anni svolge la propria attività clinica privata, di formazione, consulenza e supervisione. È co-fondatrice e membro della redazione della rivista semestrale “Varchi. Tracce per la psicoanalisi”.
