The publication of Seminar VI by Jacques Lacan, *Desire and Its Interpretation*, in Italian has represented a major editorial event for psychoanalysis professionals but also, as always happens with the publication of a Lacan Seminar, for many others who find in his teaching a living, original, and guiding source for multiple applications, clinical, cultural, philosophical, sociological. In other words, an essential tool for reading what concerns us at the most intimate level of us speakers and for the world we have in front of us. This book aims to contribute to the reading of this very important Seminar. A reading that highlights how the theme of desire occupied a central place in the commitment in which Lacan engaged in his "return to Freud," at the beginning of the 1950s. But at the same time, how this "return" did not mean delivering a restored version of an already seen film, but rather unfolding an entirely new articulation that takes us where desire itself leads us. Through a detailed examination of the cases to which Lacan refers, such as his interpretation of Hamlet, the book highlights how for Lacan desire leads us beyond the Oedipal plot that post-Freudian psychoanalysis has used to the point of fraying its truth. What Lacan aims for, as the book demonstrates, is instead an awakening of desire, which is no longer the desire of the dreamer who goes hand in hand with the desire to sleep, but what impacts the most intimate joint of the relationship between being and existing.
