In 1930s Apulia, in Altamura – the “city of bread” – among fields of golden wheat and wood-fired ovens, Tommaso leads a life of sacrifices. A widower and father of two children, a baker by night and a farmer by day, he has learned to live with solitude, until an unexpected encounter changes his destiny forever.
Early is a young woman who has come from afar, shrouded in a mystery rooted in magic, popular superstitions, and the cruelty of men.
A deep bond forms between them, capable of defying time, pain, and a terrible curse that seems impossible to break.
A love story suspended between fairy tale and reality, where there are no princes or princesses, but characters with extraordinary nobility of spirit.
A story set in an era that now seems distant, while the “white art” is swept away by the pace of change, threatening to reduce the ancient aroma of freshly baked bread to a mere memory.
